Frequently Asked Questions

Creating an Account

All new visitors to the CAPT Online Learning portal must create an account before they can register for a course.

I’m having problems creating an account. What’s wrong?

Our first guess is that you already have an account. Our system only allows one account per email address so if you’re trying to create a new account with the same address you’ll encounter an error.

  • If you have previously enrolled in a CAPT online training course, please use your existing login and password (i.e., the one you used for previous courses). If you cannot remember your login or password, please contact captonlinesupport@edc.org.  When requesting help, please provide us with your name; the state, tribe, or jurisdiction in which you work; and the problem you are experiencing.
  • If this is your first time taking a CAPT online training course (i.e., are sure you don’t already have an account) and you’re still having problems creating an account, please send an email to captonlinesupport@edc.org.

I thought I created an account. How come I can’t enroll in a course?

There is a possibility that your account didn’t go through. You will know that you successfully created an account when you receive a confirmation email from us—usually within 5 minutes of entering your information into the system. At that point, you should be able to enroll in a course. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please contact captonlinesupport@edc.org. When requesting help, please provide us with your name and the state, tribe, or jurisdiction in which you work. Also, clearly state the problem you are experiencing, and the name of the course in which you would like to enroll.

Accessing Course Materials

Can I log onto the CAPT Online Learning Portal nights and weekends?

Prevention Training Now! courses are open 24 hours a day, including nights and weekends. Grantee Enrollment courses are open 24 hours a day for the duration of the course period.

If I leave a course part-way through, will my computer “remember” where I left off?

Unfortunately, CAPT online courses do not remember when users come and go. You will need to track your progress through each course on your own.

Course Endorsement

Who has endorsed CAPT online courses?

All CAPT online courses have been endorsed by the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC). This endorsement provides assurance that the courses are consistent with the IC&RC's prevention specialist domains and can be applied the IC&RC's Prevention Specialist credential.

The CAPT is also a NAADAC-approved education provider. Our provider number is 556. All CAPT online courses have been approved by NAADAC.

Completing Courses

What’s involved in completing a CAPT online course?

There are two steps involved in completing a CAPT online course. First, you must receive a passing grade (at least (80% correct) on the Final Assessment. Second, you must view the Final Assessment. Third, you must let the system know that you viewed the assessment by checking “Yes” or “No” at the bottom of the Feedback Survey landing page. At that point, the system will automatically generate a certificate of completion that you can download.

Do I have to complete the Final Assessment?

If you are interested in receiving a certificate of completion, you must complete the course self-assessment and receive a passing grade (at least 80% correct).

Can I take the Final Assessment more than once?

Yes, you can take the assessment as many times as you’d like.

Do I have to complete the feedback survey?

You do not have to complete the feedback survey to receive a certificate of completion but you do need to view the survey. After opening the link, if you do not want to complete the survey, return to the Feedback Survey page and check “Yes” at the bottom of the page. At that point, the system will automatically generate a certificate of completion, assuming that you received a passing grade on the Final Assessment.

Having said that, we do value your feedback and encourage you to complete the survey.

If you are still having problems retrieving your certificate after checking “Yes”, please send an email to captonlinesupport@edc.org. When requesting help, please provide us with your name and the state, tribe, or jurisdiction in which you work. Also, clearly state the problem you are experiencing, and the name of the course in which you are participating.

I completed the Feedback Survey. Where’s my certificate?

Once you have completed the feedback survey, you need to return to the Feedback Survey page and check “yes” at the bottom of the page. Doing so will trigger the system to automatically generate a certificate which you can then download.

Oh no! I forgot to print out my certificate after I completed one of the CAPT self-paced courses. Is it too late?

No — it is never too late! You can print out your certificate at any point after you completed the course and received a passing grade on the final assessment.

What can I do with my certificate?

You can submit your certificate to your individual state credentialing/certification board to receive continuing education credits. However, SAMHSA’s CAPT does not guarantee that all states, tribes, and jurisdictions will allow practitioners to apply CAPT course hours toward certification.

Keeping Track

I can't remember which courses I've enrolled and completed. Is there a way to track this?

Yes! Once you have logged into the site, when you click on ‘My Courses’, you will see a listing of the courses in which you have been enrolled.

I’m still confused. Who can I contact for help?

If you have questions or problems, please email captonlinesupport@edc.org. When requesting help, please provide us with your name and the state, tribe, or jurisdiction in which you work. Also, clearly state the problem you are experiencing, and the name of the course in which you are participating.
